- 1 pack of puff pastry (ready-made or homemade)
- 100 g pesto (basil and garlic flavor)
- 150 g mozzarella cheese (or alternatively parmesan or gouda)
- 1 egg or milk (for a golden surface)
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangular shape, leaving about 1 cm free at the edges.
- Spread the 100 g of pesto evenly over the puff pastry, ensuring to leave the edges free to prevent overflow when rolling.
- Sprinkle the 150 g of grated mozzarella evenly over the pesto-covered pastry.
- Starting from one of the longer sides, roll the puff pastry tightly into a long log, ensuring it is rolled firmly but not so tight that the filling spills out.
- Chill the rolled pastry in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes to make slicing easier.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the log into slices about 1-1.5 cm thick and place them spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg or milk and brush each twist with the mixture for a golden, shiny finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
- Once baked, let them cool slightly before serving warm.
